Adopt Resolution No. 22-09-05 the naming of two new roads in the Tonto Basin, Arizona area as East American Way and East Forest Service Road 1553.

Background Information

Record of Survey 5507 split an approximately 60-acre parcel in Jake’s Corner into four pieces and the subsequent development activities created the need for a property access evaluation. Three of the parcels can be serviced by the proposed East American Way road while the fourth parcel needs separate access due to terrain considerations. The property owners were unanimous in their communication which fulfilled the threshold requirement of Section 807.A of the Gila County Street Naming and Property Numbering Ordinance 2022-06. The property owners were sent the public notice with a dissenting response date of August 19, 2022, with no dissensions received.

Evaluation

East American Way road branches off of Gun Creek Road while East Forest Service Road 1553 branches off of AZ Highway 188. They are both located in Jakes Corner.

Section 805 of the Addressing Ordinance limits similar-sounding names within the County. The name American is not used elsewhere in Gila County so the name selection is satisfied. While there are many Forest Service Roads in Gila County the number 1553 satisfies the uniqueness requirement.

Conclusion

Naming these roads in the Tonto Basin area is supported by the Gila County Street Naming and Property Numbering Ordinance Number 2022-06.

Recommendation

The Public Works Department Director recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt Resolution No. 22-09-05 naming two roads in the Tonto Basin area as East American Way and East Forest Service Road 1553.
