Official Canvass of the August 2, 2022, Gila County Primary Election Results
Background Information
A Primary Election was held on August 2, 2022. In accordance with Arizona Revised Statute §16-645, the Board of Supervisors must canvass the election results and declare them to be official.
Evaluation
Arizona Revised Statute §16-645 provides that the governing body holding an election shall meet and canvass the election not less than six days nor more than twenty days following the election. The Secretary of State Election Procedures Manual states that the Board of Supervisors shall meet to canvass the Primary Election returns within 10 days after the Primary Election and shall deliver the canvass to the Secretary of State. The last day to submit the election results to the Secretary of State's Office is Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
Conclusion
The Primary Election was conducted in Gila County on August 2, 2022, and the Board of Supervisors is required by law to canvass the returns of the election, declare them official, and send a certified copy of the election results to the Secretary of State.
Recommendation
The Elections Department Director recommends that the Board of Supervisors review the Primary Election Canvass and declare the results of the election held on August 2, 2022, as being official.
