Award Service Agreement No. 07132022 with Sunland Asphalt and Construction, Inc for the removal and installation of new paving at the Gila County Fairgrounds in the amount of $262,974.54.

Background Information

Phase 1 Fairgrounds Site Improvements project demolished and removed six outbuildings and concrete foundations, and the old announcer booth. The next phase is removing the existing asphalt and paving the area where the structures were removed to make the area safe and improve access to the main grandstand. Sunland Asphalt and Construction, Inc. enjoys a cooperative contract with the City of Buckeye, Arizona, and Gila County is able to piggyback on the cooperative contract for the paving project. If approved, Sunland is able to complete to paving prior to the Gila County Fair in September.

Evaluation

Sunland Asphalt and Construction, Inc.'s contract was competitively bid by the City of Buckeye and allows for other public entities to utilize the contract for project work. Sunland is available to perform the work in the timeframe necessary prior to the Gila County Fair in September to ensure safe walking areas in the main grandstand area.

Conclusion

The next step in the fairgrounds improvement project now that the old buildings and foundations have been removed is to remove the old asphalt and install new pavement. Installing new pavement will ensure a safe walking area and a more functional space around the main grandstand area.

Recommendation

Staff recommends approval of the paving project.
