Background Information
Dorothy Little, Payson Justice of the Peace, pursuant to A.R.S. §38-294(4), gave notice of her resignation from office in writing to the Chairman of the Gila County Board of Supervisors on July 5, 2022, such resignation to be effective as of September 30, 2022.
Evaluation
Pursuant to A.R.S. §11-251(16), the Gila County Board of Supervisors is empowered and required to fill the appointment of any vacancies in the county or precinct offices occurring during an unexpired term.
Conclusion
The Gila County Board of Supervisors should determine what process is to be used to make an appointment to fill the Payson Justice of the Peace Court vacancy. The remaining term of the incumbent is October 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022.
