Request/Subject

Authorization to submit a grant application to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee requesting $10,000 to be used for a low-cost spay/neuter program in Gila County for residents.

Background Information

This is a grant application being submitted to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee requesting funds to provide Gila County residents with vouchers to individuals for a discounted spay or neuter service. Dogs would cost $80 and cats would cost $50. All dogs will be required to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed in Gila County. Cats will be required to be vaccinated for rabies. Proof and/or payment of rabies vaccination and/or license is due at the time of application.

Evaluation

Gila County Animal Care & Control currently has a low-cost spay/neuter program and this funding would allow us to expand the program and continue to offer discounted spay or neuter services.

Conclusion

This grant would benefit the residents of Gila County by providing $10,000 in funding for spaying/neutering of dogs and cats.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Gila County Health & Emergency Management Department Director that the Board of Supervisors approve the submittal of this grant application to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee.

Suggested Motion

Authorization for the Gila County Animal Care & Control Division to submit a grant application to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee in the amount of $10,000 to expand its discounted spay/neuter services in Gila County for a period of one year.
