Approval to use State Contract No. ADSPO18-00007981 with A to Z Equipment for the purchase of a Brush Bandit vegetation chipper.

Background Information

Debris is anticipated to wash into the creeks around Globe/Miami for several years after the Telegraph Fire of 2021. Gila County asked the Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) for a Chipper and Drum to assist in reducing the vegetation debris to chips rather than burn them. The clearing of culverts and washes to help prevent flooding of surrounding property brings an enormous amount of brush to the landfill.

A to Z Equipment is under Arizona State Contract ADSPO18-00007981 for the chipper that Gila County needs.

Evaluation

The Intimidator Model 18XP has an 18” drum and runs 122.5 HP.

The Arizona State Contract offers a 12% discount on the equipment.

Conclusion

This piece of equipment will be very valuable to Gila County crews now and in the future for continued flood mitigation. In the past, Gila County crews have had burn piles and burned them once a year. It is increasingly difficult to burn vegetation with such dry seasons and near a population as in Globe.

Recommendation

The Gila County Public Works Department Director recommends that the Board ratify the Board of Supervisors' approval for the Chairman’s signature on Arizona State Cooperative Contract No. ADSPO18-00007981 in the amount of $77,513.71 to purchase the Brush Bandit vegetation chipper through A to Z Equipment for continued flood mitigation as a reimbursable cost through DFFM.
