Correctional Officers Retirement Plan (CORP) Local Board for Detention Officers and Non-Uniformed Officers

Background Information

The powers and duties of the CORP Local Board for Detention Officers and Non-Uniformed Officers are outlined in A.R.S. § 38-893. This board is comprised of 5 members of which one member is the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors (BOS) or the Chairman's designee who is approved by the BOS as Chairman; 2 members are elected by secret ballot by members employed by the participating county in a designated position; and 2 citizens, one of whom shall be the head of the merit system (Gila County Personnel Commission) appointed by the BOS.

A vacancy exists on this board for a member that is elected by Plan members. On June 3, 2022, a memo and ballot election form were issued to all eligible Gila County Sheriff's Office Detention Officers and Non-Uniformed Officers to elect a governing board member to sit on the CORP Local Board for Detention Officers and Non-Uniformed Officers. The voting period was June 3rd through June 16th. The candidate with 79% of the votes declined the appointment. With a tie for the other three (3) candidates, a "Runoff" election was necessary. The "Runoff" Ballot Election form was issued to all eligible GCSO Detention Officers. The voting period was June 17th through July 2, 2022. On July 6, 2022, the Local Board canvassed the election results and declared them as being official. Alyxx J. Hartmann won the election. He will fill a vacancy for the term of office that ends on December 31, 2023.

Evaluation

The Board of Supervisors needs to "acknowledge" the election of Alyxx J. Hartmann to fill a vacancy on this Local Board through December 31, 2023. Mr. Hartmann was elected by members of the CORP Local Board for Detention Officers and Non-Uniformed Officers. In acknowledging this new governing board member, an accurate and up-to-date list will be on file in the Board of Supervisors' Office.

Conclusion

The BOS needs to acknowledge the election of Alyxx J. Hartmann to this local governing board.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors acknowledge the election of Mr. Hartmann.

Suggested Motion

Acknowledgment of the election of Alyxx J. Hartmann to the Correctional Officers Retirement Plan (CORP) Local Board of Directors for Detention Officers and Non-Uniformed Officers for the term of office that ends on December 31, 2023.
