Resolution No. 21-08-02 Establishing Guidelines and Redistricting Principles Regarding the Gila County Redistricting Advisory Committee

Background Information

Redistricting: A.R.S. § 11-212 requires the Board of Supervisors to meet following the decennial census and divide the County into supervisorial districts. The 2020 census data has been delayed until September 2021, therefore, allowing the County time to conduct a thorough and transparent redistricting process. The redistricting process for Gila County will be completed in the spring of 2022. The Board of Supervisors may appoint a Gila County Citizens Advisory Committee. At the 7/27/2021 Special Meeting of the Board, an overview of the redistricting process was provided by consultants Mac Feezor and Bruce Adelson, Esq. Additionally, redistricting guiding principles were presented and discussed. The next step in the process is to adopt Resolution No. 21-08-02 establishing guidelines for the selection of the Redistricting Advisory Committee comprised of local citizen volunteers and approving the redistricting guiding principles.

Evaluation

In order to move forward in the redistricting process, staff is requesting that the Board adopt Resolution No. 21-08-02.

Staff recommends adoption of Resolution No. 21-08-02.

Information/Discussion/Action to adopt Resolution No. 21-08-02 establishing guidelines for the selection of the Gila County Redistricting Advisory Committee (Committee) to include duties and responsibilities of Committee members; and to adopt Redistricting Principles for the Board of Supervisors and the Committee.
