Presentation of the 2021-2022 Gila County Teacher of the Year Award.
Background Information
The Gila County Education Service Agency sponsors the Gila County Teacher of the Year Program. The purpose of the Gila County Teacher of the Year Program, established in 2011, is to publicly acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of professional educators who demonstrate excellence both in and out of the classroom. The goals of the Gila County Teacher of the Year Program are to 1) acknowledge, celebrate and promote excellence in teaching; 2) recognize and honor teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching, and 3) pay tribute to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in educating the young people of Gila County. Nominees may be nominated by another educator, a student, an administrator, or by a parent or community member. A selection committee comprised of community members reviews and screens applications and selects finalists.

Evaluation
Ms. Mary Yazzi of Miami High School District #40 was selected as this year's recipient of the 2021-2022 Gila County Teacher of the Year Award.

Ms. Yazzi joined Miami Unified School District in 2007, teaching Art/Graphic design. Her expertise and knowledge of technology go beyond the borders of any graphic art classroom. Ms. Yazzi is also involved in CVIT, preparing her students to have a working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator; this is equivalent to a 2-year certificate program with hands-on learning to prepare students to enter the job market. Ms. Yazzi and Miami High School have partnered with Arizona State University through AZSOC, to teach students through online teaching during the pandemic. Another important contribution to the school by Ms. Yazzi has been the Leadership Skills Class that she has been an instructor for, mentoring students in worth ethics, and leadership in and out of school. These students travel and compete with other schools throughout the country immersing in a Virtual Reality Arts opportunity by incorporating Art and culture. She involves herself in Miami Unified, by capturing moments via pictures that are often seen on the school’s webpage. There are many more school events that you will find Ms. Yazzi involved with such as Homecoming, Prom, Yearbook, and Senior Slide show. Julia Cerda Crawford is very proud to nominate Ms. Yazzi for Teacher of the Year.
Conclusion
Ms. Yazzi has been selected as the 2021-2022 Gila County Teacher of the Year. Ms. Yazzi currently teaches Art and Graphic Design in the Miami High School District #40 in Miami, Arizona. Ms. Yazzi will be presented with a plaque and cash award in recognition of her dedication as the 2021-2021 Gila County Teacher of the Year.

This year's nominations were extremely close, and there were very few points between the Gila County Teacher of the Year and other nominees, so the School Superintendent's Office would like to recognize the Gila County Teacher of the Year as well as two other Gila County Teachers.
