Request approval of Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 040320-A with ATOZEN, LLC DBA Sanders Transport, and Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 040320-B with Lamont Mortuary of Globe for the provision of autopsy transport services.

Background Information

Last year the County conducted a public bid solicitation to secure bids for transport services for deceased persons to the Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy when required. The bids were publicly opened on May 13, 2020, and 2 responsive and responsible proposals were received from ATOZEN, LLC DBA Sanders Transport and Lamont Mortuary of Globe. Of the proposals evaluated the following proposals were deemed the best overall value for Gila County based on pricing and geographical location to provide services. The contract was awarded to ATOZEN, LLC DBA Sanders Transport for the following areas: Gisela, Globe, Hayden, Miami, Payson, Pine-Strawberry, Punkin Center, Rye, Star Valley, Winkelman, and other locations within Gila County. The contract was awarded to Lamont Mortuary of Globe for the following areas: Roosevelt, San Carlos, Tonto Basin, and Young. Contracts to transport deceased persons from their location to the location where the autopsy will be performed were awarded at the June 2, 2020 Board meeting.

Evaluation

The transport service is necessary and required to transport deceased persons when an autopsy is necessary as determined by the County Attorney. Negotiated contracts need to be in place to secure pricing for a specified period. Both contractors have agreed to hold their pricing for the additional one-year period. It is the desire of the County to continue these service contracts that provide specific costs and are deemed in the best interest of the County.

Conclusion

It is in the best interest of the County to approve contract amendments to the contracts with ATOZEN, LLC DBA Sanders Transport, and Lamont Mortuary of Globe to provide autopsy transport services as required.
