Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board Appointments

Background Information

A.R.S. §3-124-County agricultural extension board; members; appointment; term; qualifications; office space states, “The board of supervisors shall appoint 7 persons, who are residents of the county, to a county agricultural extension board, 4 of whom have as their principal business the production of agricultural commodities, and the other 3 of whom shall be representative of organizations or persons who utilize the county agricultural extension services.”

Each member shall be appointed for a term of two years.

The Clerk of the Board received notification that Mike Henderson resigned from the Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board (Board). He represents a person who utilizes the County agricultural extension services. Mr. Henderson's term of office ends on December 31, 2021. Ms. Cassie Waggoner has agreed to sit on this Board and fulfill Mr. Henderson's unexpired term of office. Ms. Waggoner will also represent a person who utilizes the County agricultural extension services.

In accordance with the Board's bylaws, Ms. Twila Cassadore was removed from office because she had too many unexcused absences. Ms. Cassadore's principal business is the production of agricultural commodities. Ms. Sammi Jenkins has agreed to sit on this Board and fulfill Ms. Cassadore's unexpired term of office.

Evaluation

Two vacancies exist on this Board. Ms. Waggoner has agreed to fulfill Mr. Henderson's unexpired term of office which ends on December 31, 2021, and Ms. Sammi Jenkins has agreed to fulfill Ms. Cassadore's unexpired term of office which ends on December 31, 2021.

Conclusion

The Board of Supervisors needs to consider appointing Cassie Waggoner and Sammi Jenkins to the Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board to fulfill Mr. Henderson's and Ms. Cassadore's unexpired terms of office, respectively.

Recommendation

The Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board recommends that the Board of Supervisors appoint Ms. Waggoner and Ms. Jenkins.

Suggested Motion

Approval to appoint Ms. Cassie Waggoner and Ms. Sammi Jenkins to the Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board to fulfill Mike Henderson's and Twila Cassadore's unexpired terms of office, respectively, which end on December 31, 2021.
