Information
Request/Subject
Request to advertise for public sale obsolete/surplus items that have little to no value, and to recycle electronic equipment that has no value.
Background Information
The building where the surplus equipment is stored will be required to move due to the expansion of the Russell Gulch Landfill. The building is filled with obsolete/surplus equipment waiting for disposition. The last online surplus equipment auction was held in 2018. The online auction process is time-consuming and the surplus items stored at the Landfill have little to no value. Advertising and holding a public sale instead of the online auction process will dispose of the surplus property quickly so the building can be dismantled to make room for expansion. In addition to the equipment sale, the used printers and computer equipment have little to no value and instead of putting them in the Landfill, Michael Roybal, Information Technology Department Director, has contacted an electronic waste recycler who will dispose of the obsolete computer equipment. If approved, the sale will be noticed in the Arizona Silver Belt newspaper at least 30 days before the sale. The date of the public sale will be July 9, 2022, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The following items have been deemed surplus or obsolete and have little to no value. It is in the best interest to hold a public sale of the surplus equipment: 17 desks, 17 chairs, 1 refrigerator, 1 set washer/dryer, 20 file cabinets, 8 bookcases, 1 patio heater, misc computer equipment and printers, 2 TV carts, 4 TV's, 1 fryer, 1 coffee maker.
Evaluation
Surplus equipment is obsolete, has already been offered to departments within the County, and has been stored in a building set for demolition to make way for the Russell Gulch Landfill expansion. It is in the best interest of the County to dispose of this property in the most economical way possible by way of a one-day public sale, and disposal at an electronic waste recycler. If approved, the sale will be noticed in the Arizona Silver Belt newspaper at least 30 days prior to the sale. The date of the public sale will be July 9, 2022, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Conclusion
Upon properly noticing the sale of surplus equipment, staff recommends holding a public sale of surplus property.
Recommendation
Upon properly noticing the sale of surplus equipment, staff recommends holding a public sale of surplus property.
Suggested Motion
Information/Discussion/Action to approve the sale and disposal of surplus/obsolete equipment and hold a public sale on July 9, 2022, at the Russell Gulch landfill after the sale is properly noticed in the Arizona Silver Belt newspaper. (Mary Springer)
