Information
Request/Subject
The Gila County Superior Court recently received approval from the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court to implement a jury division plan to regionalize jury service. The Court would like to inform the public and thank the Board of Supervisors for their support in this initiative.
Background Information
In late 2021, Superior Court Presiding Judge Timothy Wright and Judge Bryan Chambers, in collaboration with the Clerk of Court, Anita Escobedo, began drafting a proposal to create two Superior Court jury districts within Gila County. The goal of the plan was to increase jury participation by localizing jury service around Globe and Payson: jurors in the Southern part of the County would report to Globe and those in Northern Gila County would report to Payson. This plan will significantly decrease juror travel between opposite ends of the County, increasing the likelihood of attendance.

The plan, authored by Judges Wright and Chambers, was presented to the Administrative Office of the Courts. After some minor revisions, it was circulated for public comment and presented to the Presiding Judges of Arizona in October 2022 before receiving approval from the Arizona Judicial Council in December 2022.
