Presentation to the Gila County Board of Supervisors regarding GilaPROUD's FY2022 accomplishments.
Background Information
Gila PROUD is a partnership that was formed by several local agencies to fund landscaping and beautification services along U.S. Highway 60 from the eastern edge of Globe to the city limits of Miami to the west. Allegiance Builders, a firefighter- and locally-owned business was contracted and began working in July 2022.

Allegiance Builders performs landscaping services on both sides of the highway along sidewalks, walkways, shoulder, guardrails, and box culverts within the designated Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) right-of-way, as well as in the medians. The contractor also provides managerial, administrative, and direct labor personnel for the project as required by the contract.

Community response on social media was overwhelmingly positive. In addition to the GilaPROUD Project, the owner of Allegiance Builders, Lyle Wyatt, has worked with the County for flood debris mitigation, as well as the U.S. Forest Service Globe and Payson Ranger Districts for debris removal and other landscaping/hardscaping projects. All of the Allegiance employees are local and retired firefighters. Wyatt has previously worked with the Arizona Department of Transportation regarding traffic control and provides all required management, equipment, manpower, and insurance.

From July 2022 to December 2022, Allegiance removed 13.64 tons of litter and weeds from the highway. In December 2022, they removed 1,800 lbs. of debris, including branches and building material from the highway.
FY2022 Partners are as follows:
  • BHP - $15,830
  • Gila County - $10,000
  • City of Globe - $10,000
  • Freeport McMoRan - $10,000
  • Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center - $20,000
  • Capstone Mining - $10,000
  • Southern Gila County Economic Development - $10,000
  • Resolution - $1,000
  • Town of Miami - $2,000
Evaluation
The GilaPROUD Project fills a need for the communities of Globe and Miami by keeping the main thoroughfare through the two communities clean and maintained. Businesses, like Bullion Plaza, Best Western Copper Hills Inn, and the Gila County Historical Museum, that are along the route have shared photos and updates on the project and thanked the county and Allegiance for a job well done. Individuals have also commented on the project. From July 2022 to the present day, the project has cost about $77,287 with an expected total cost of about $132,492.
Conclusion
GilaPROUD's presentation is a general overview of the activities performed in 2022.
