Request/Subject

Approval of an Economic Development Grant between Gila County and The Gila County Gem and Mineral Society.

Background Information

Every year funds are budgeted to support economic development activities. The Gila County Gem and Mineral Society has applied to Gila County for an Economic Development Grant in the amount of $2000 to support their 2023 Gem and Mineral 3-day Show. Under A.R.S. §11-254, contributions may be made to any governmental agency or to a non-profit corporation that enjoys and maintains federal tax-exempt status as long as all monies are utilized for the purpose determined to be public by the Board. The Gila County Gem and Mineral Society will provide the direct benefit of advertising and promoting Gila County on local radio stations, in local newspapers, and on all of their social media platforms.

Further, under A.R.S. §11-262, the Board may extend monies in aid of any art organization operated and maintained within the boundaries of the county for the benefit of the public by any nonprofit corporation. The Gila County Gem and Mineral Society is a non-profit corporation that is operated and maintained in Gila County.

Evaluation

Funds are available. After reviewing the application/agreement, and asking any necessary questions, the Board shall determine if the request is for the benefit of the public. The Board may approve the Economic Development Grant and determine it to be for the benefit of the public.

Conclusion

Funds are available and after evaluation, the Board may approve the Economic Development Grant that the Board has determined to be for the benefit of the public by entering into an agreement with The Gila County Gem and Mineral Society, a non-profit corporation. All grant monies awarded to the non-profit shall be used for the purpose determined to be public by the Board.

Recommendation

After evaluation, the Board may approve the Economic Development Grant that the Board has determined to be for the benefit of the public by entering into an Agreement with The Gila County Gem and Mineral Society, a non-profit organization.

Suggested Motion
