Request/Subject

Public Works Department Policy # PWS-001 - “Guidelines to Primitive Roads” which replaces Policy No. ENG03-03.

Background Information

Public Works Department Policy No. ENG 03-03 – “Guidelines to Primitive Roads” was originally approved by the Board of Supervisors on October 7, 2003, with subsequent revisions being approved on December 14, 2004, and May 23, 2017.

Evaluation

Aside from a few grammatical changes, the format of the policy has been updated to the format used for all Countywide policies adopted by the Board of Supervisors. The main reason for the revision is to update the policy with the current version of A.R.S. § 28-6706. The older version of the statute said that primitive roads must have been built prior to June 13, 1975, and the updated statute says that primitive roads must have been built prior to June 13, 1990. The policy number is being changed according to the table of contents for Countywide policies as adopted by the Board of Supervisors.

Conclusion

The proposed revisions address the change to A.R.S. § 28-6706; and change to the policy number and document format.

Recommendation

The Gila County Public Works Department recommends approval of the proposed revisions to the Public Works Department Policy “Guidelines to Primitive Roads" and the policy format and number change from ENG03-03 to PWS-001.

Suggested Motion

Approval of revised Public Works Department Policy “Guidelines to Primitive Roads" to match updated Arizona Revised Statute § 28-6706; change the format of the policy; and change the policy number from ENG03-03 to PWS-001.
