Approval of Appendix A - Addendum No. 045-JD with Sentinel Technologies, Inc. for the purchase of Cisco C9500 core switches and C9300 access switches, as part of the Information Technology Department's 5-year equipment replacement plan for the County’s main communication core switches.

Background Information

The County supports approximately 550 users in multiple locations. Core switches process every packet of data that flows through the County daily, both from the Internet and from our outlying locations. Additionally, the County continues to add more video conferencing and streaming services requiring more processing power, and filtering of possibly malicious data, from our switches. Being the main communication equipment for the entire County it is imperative to be on a 5-year replacement plan for core switch maintenance. The County entered into a Master Service Agreement with Sentinel Technologies, Inc. for assistance with specific projects. The County Manager signed the MSA on September 7, 2021. We added Appendix A - Addendum No. 039-JD for the Network Discovery and Document project. The County Manager signed Appendix A - Addendum No. 039-JD on October 6, 2021, as the project was under $50,000. Appendix A - Addendum No. 045-JD is being requested for our core switch upgrade in the amount of $74,736.74.

Evaluation

The Information Technology Department Director recommends the approval of Appendix A - Addendum 045-JD for new core switch replacements to meet the increasing demand for data, voice, and videos. The new equipment will double the throughput of data, voice, and video than the existing core switches allowing us to accommodate these increases. This is also implemented as part of the IT Department’s 5-year replacement plan for the County’s core switch maintenance program.

Conclusion

The approval of Appendix A - Addendum 045-JD will provide 5 years of hardware and software licensing, and support from Sentinel Technologies. These switches will support current traffic and allow for any anticipated increases until the next upgrade.

Recommendation

The Information Technology Department Director recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve Appendix A - Addendum 045-JD with Sentinel Technologies, Inc utilizing National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (NCPA) State Contract CTR059872 for the core switch replacement.
