Approve an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) No. 070722 between Gila County and Tonto Apache Tribe.

Background Information

Gila County was contacted by the Tonto Apache Tribe and asked to look into the feasibility of the Gila County Sheriff's Office providing Dispatch Service. An Intergovernmental Agreement was drafted by the Gila County Finance Department. The Tonto Apache Tribe held a Public Hearing on October 10, 2022, where the Intergovernmental Agreement was approved.

Evaluation

The Gila County Sheriff's Office will provide dispatch services in a manner consistent with services being provided to the Gila County Sheriff's Deputies. The Gila County Sheriff's Office will supply twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week dispatching, telephone answering, 911 dispatch services, and paging services through its two-way radio communication dispatch center and log all communication from the Tonto Apache Tribal Police. The Gila County Sheriff's Office will provide dispatch services which include law enforcement information from NCIC/ACJIS in conformance with their guidelines and provide law enforcement information for the enforcement of the Tribe's civil and criminal law and ordinance code. Gila County Sheriff's Office agrees to receive and record the Tribe's warrant information and keep the records. The Tribe agrees to use its best efforts to keep warrant information current, provide all contact information required for dispatching, telephone answering, and paging, and maintain current MSAG/911 addresses.

Conclusion

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office will provide dispatch services for the Tonto Apache Tribe Police Department in the amount of $53,843 ($4486.92 per month) for a total of $107,686 for the period of November 1, 2022, to October 31, 2024, with the ability for 3 additional one-year terms.

Recommendation

Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve an Intergovernmental Agreement No. 070722 between Gila County and the Tonto Apache Tribe for dispatch services in the amount of $107,686 for a period of November 1, 2022, through October 31, 2024, with the ability for 3 additional one-year terms.
