Information
Request/Subject
Adopt Resolution No. 22-10-02 in support of a gaming grant application submitted by Hellsgate Fire District to the Tohono O’ Odham Nation.
Background Information
Hellsgate Fire District (HFD) is a small rural district covering several small residential areas within northern Gila County and has limited resources to fund the purchase of new radio/intercom systems for emergency response vehicles. HFD is made up of several adult (55+) RV parks and retirement communities. HFD also covers an area 15 miles east of Highway 260. The FY2023 Grant Application to the Tohono O’ Odham Nation was submitted on May 31, 2022. The grant application requested $25,195.02 for three sets of radio/intercom systems for their front-line vehicles, Engine, Ladder, and Wildland Fire Vehicle. Under the tribal gaming compacts, tribes with casinos contribute 1% to 8% of their gaming revenue each year to the state, cities, towns, and counties. The contribution is determined on a sliding scale based on the amount of gaming revenue. 12% is distributed by the tribe to cities, towns, and counties of their choosing for community services and public safety programs for local government. HFD is requesting the Board adopt Resolution No. 22-10-02 supporting the application submittal to the Tohono O’ Odham Nation, accept the gaming grant award and be the pass-through agency for the funds for HFD.
Evaluation
Hellsgate Fire District was notified of being awarded the grant funds and will purchase three new sets of radio/intercom systems for emergency response vehicles.
Conclusion
Hellsgate Fire District is seeking support from Gila County, by the adoption of Resolution No. 22-10-02, for their grant application and award from the Tohono O’ Odham Nation for funding to purchase three new radio/intercom systems for emergency response vehicles and have Gila County act as the pass-through agency.

Staff recommends the adoption of Resolution No. 22-10-02 in support of the grant application and award from the Tohono O’ Odham Nation for the purchase of three new radio/intercom systems for Hellsgate Fire Districts' emergency response vehicles.
