Request/Subject
Approval of a Funding Agreement between Gila County Community Services and New Directions, a local non-profit organization, whose mission is to help stop hunger, poverty, and homelessness in the amount of $25,000 for the fiscal year 2023.
Background Information
The primary mission of the Gila County Community Services Department is to administer, promote, and partner with local agencies, when possible, to help alleviate poverty. Part of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funding is to support and promote community initiatives and activities in the local communities.

New Directions is a local non-profit organization formally known as the Payson Warming Center, which offers services with the Payson Homeless and Homeless Veterans Initiative Program. New Directions has been operating since 2019. The organization aims to replace homelessness with hope. New Directions offers food, clothing, showers, support services, and a place to sleep. Volunteers assist with food preparation, light cleaning, transportation, laundry, and pet care. Weekly, New Directions serves 250 to 350 meals and helps approximately thirty-five individuals daily. The Homeless Resolution Program works with several partners to find permanent homes and jobs to end the cycle of homelessness in the Town of Payson.
Evaluation
If approved, the Gila County Community Services Department will be giving $25,000 CSBG discretionary funding to New Directions to be used to provide services to the homeless.
Conclusion
If the Board of Supervisors approves the Funding Agreement between Gila County and New Directions; Gila County Community Services will be giving $25,000 for the fiscal year 2023 to include funds for administration and infrastructure to better help the local homeless including veterans.

The Gila County Community Services Department Director recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve the Funding Agreement between Gila County and the New Directions for the amount of $25,000 to serve the homeless for the fiscal year 2023.
