Resolution No. 16-09-03 to sign IGA/JPA 16-0005917-I with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

Background Information

Gila County and the City of Globe have received funds from Central Arizona Governments (CAG) for a sidewalk along Main Street. The sidewalk will begin at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Main Street and terminate at the Main Street /Golden Hill Road intersection. Construction is expected to begin early next year.
This Intergovernmental Agreement with ADOT is for the next phase of the project. The sidewalk will begin at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Russell Road and continue along Russell Road to Golden Hill and then along Golden Hill until it meets the Main Street Sidewalk.
Gila County applied to Central Arizona Governments (CAG) for Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds in the amount $350,000 for the design and construction of the sidewalk. Gila County has also offered to provide $50,000 in addition to the required 5.7% match.

Evaluation

Without funding from ADOT and CAG, Gila County could not construct the sidewalk. Golden Hill and Russell Road have a significant amount of daily traffic. A sidewalk will provide the residents a safe place to walk without having to walk in the roadway.

Conclusion

It is the best interest of the County to construct a sidewalk along Golden Hill Road.

Recommendation

The Public Works Division Director recommends that the Gila County Board of Supervisors adopt Resolution No. 16-09-03 which authorizes IGA/JPA 16-0005917-I between the State of Arizona, Department of Transportation, and Gila County.

Information/Discussion/Action to adopt Resolution No. 16-09-03 which authorizes the execution of an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA/JPA 16-0005917-I) between Gila County and the State of Arizona, Department of Transportation, to construct a sidewalk along Golden Hill Road in the Globe-Miami area of Gila County.
