Authorization to advertise Request for Proposals No. 072120-Lobbyist Services to provide legislative advocacy at the local and state level for programs, projects, and legislation that is of interest and affects Gila County.

Background Information

When the state mandates cost shifting initiatives, it is imperative that Gila County has representation at the local and state level to advocate on the behalf of the County. In addition to cost shifts, there are projects such as the Tonto Bridge that require face-to-face meetings and presentations to provide information and education to legislators. A lobbyist has developed relationships and understands the legislative process to be an effective advocate for the County.

Evaluation

The Board of Supervisors needs to authorize the advertisement of Request for Proposals (RFP) No. 072120 to provide legislative advocacy at the local and state level for programs, projects, and legislation that is of interest and affects Gila County.

Conclusion

Should the Board decided to authorize the advertisement of RFP No. 072120-Lobbyist Services, it will advertise in the Payson Roundup on August 25, 2020 and September 1, 2020. The proposal due date will be September 15, 2020. It is in the best interest of Gila County to seek a firm/consultant to provide professional legislative advocacy.

Recommendation

Staff recommends that the Board of Supervisors authorize the advertisement for Request for Proposals No. 072120-Lobbyist Services.
