Sale of a washer and dryer to Cobre Valley Youth Club, and washer and dryer to Project A.C.E. for use at Liberty School.

Background Information

As a result of the closure of the Gila County Juvenile Detention Center, there were two sets of used washers and dryers that have been slated to go to online auction. Both sets have been used and there is limited value to recapture from this equipment. Fernando Shipley, Secretary for the Cobre Valley Youth Center, a non-profit 501c(3) organization, is requesting the County to sell a washer and dryer for $1.00 to the Youth Center. The washer and dryer is badly needed to wash linens, towels and clothing. Christa DalMolin from Project A.C.E. (All Children Eat) in Globe-Miami, a non-profit 501c(3) organization, on behalf of the Lion's Club is also in need of this equipment to wash and dry children's clothing as necessary at the Liberty School. Both organizations serve the underserved of our communities and the sale of these items would support their missions.

Evaluation

The washers and dryers are in used condition and will not return a high value at online auction. Selling them to these non-profit organizations for $1.00 for each set of washer and dryer will serve our communities and will return a greater value. These items would be sold "as is, where is".

Recommendation

Staff recommends selling the used equipment at $1.00 for each set (1 washer and 1 dryer) to the two non-profit organizations, Cobre Valley Youth Center and Project A.C.E. (Lion's Club).

Suggested Motion

Information/Discussion/Action to sell for $1.00 (1) washer and dryer set to the Cobre Valley Youth Club and (1) washer and dryer set to Project A.C.E. (Lion's Club) which will help them in their mission to support local youth in the Globe-Miami area. (Mary Springer)
