Information
Request/Subject
Approval to submit a grant application to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee requesting $10,000 to be used for a low cost spay/neuter program in Gila County.
Background Information

This is a grant application being submitted to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee requesting funds to provide Gila County residents with vouchers to individuals for a discounted spay or neuter service. Dogs would cost $80 and cats would cost $50. All dogs will be required to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed in Gila County. Cats will be required to be vaccinated for rabies. Proof and/or payment of rabies vaccination and/or license is due at the time of application.

On August 8, 2018, the Board of Supervisors authorized the submittal of a grant application in the amount of $10,000 to Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee.

On December 11, 2018, Gila County Animal Care & Control Department received an award letter and a check in the amount of $7,000 to increase spays and neuter efforts in our community.

Evaluation
Gila County Animal Care & Control currently has a low cost spay/neuter program and this funding would allow us to expand the program and continue to offer discounted spay or neuter services.
Conclusion
This grant would benefit the residents of Gila County by providing $10,000 in funding for spaying/neutering of dogs and cats.
Recommendation
It is the recommendation of the Gila County Health & Emergency Management Department Director that the Board of Supervisors approve this grant application to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee.
Suggested Motion
Authorization for the Gila County Animal Care & Control Division to submit a grant application to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee for $10,000 to expand its discounted spay/neuter services in Gila County for a period of one year.
