Election of a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the Board of Supervisors

Background Information

On December 6, 2016, the Board of Supervisors elected Supervisor Tommie Martin to serve as its Chairman which became effective immediately after that meeting concluded. On January 10, 2017, the Board of Supervisors elected Tim Humphrey to serve as its Vice-Chairman which became effective immediately after that meeting concluded. At that time, the Board members agreed to rotate the chairmanship and vice-chairmanship every 16 months during the Supervisors' 4-year terms of office.

On April 17, 2018, the Board of Supervisors elected Supervisor Tim Humphrey to serve as its Chairman and Supervisor Woody Cline to serve as its Vice-Chairman. Both appointments went into effect as of May 1, 2018, through August 31, 2019.

Per agreement of the current Board members to rotate the chairmanship for 16-month terms of office, it is time for the Board to elect a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the term of office to begin on September 1, 2019, through December 31, 2020.

Evaluation

It is necessary for the Board to elect a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for 16 months; from September 1, 2019, to December 31, 2020.

Conclusion

It is appropriate for the Board of Supervisors to elect a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the Board of Supervisors at this time to provide elected offices and County departments ample time to change the Chairman's name on all future documents to be presented to the Board for approval.
