Authorization to Advertise Invitation for Bids (IFB) No. 080218-1-One New 1 Ton, Full Size, 4x4 Regular Cab , SRW, Cab and Chassis and Utility Service Body with 60" Cab to Axle Dimension.

Background Information

The advertisement of IFB No. 080218-1 would allow the purchase of one new 1 ton, full size, 4x4 regular cab , SRW, cab and chassis and utility service body with 60" cab to axle dimension for use by Engineering Services.

This would allow the County General Services Department the ability to receive proposals from automobile suppliers and have the option to purchase up to one new unit during a one year period, if necessary.

Evaluation

This vehicle will be used by the Engineering Department and Signs Department and will paid for with HURF (Highway User Revenue Funds) funds. This vehicle would replace unit C-41, a 2008 Ford 1 ton flat bed with more than 150,000 of logged miles that is costing a lot of money in repairs and fuel. Vehicle C-41 will be disposed of at auction to prevent increasing the size of fleet of County vehicles.

Conclusion

The vehicle to be purchased will be assigned to the Engineering Department and Signs Department.

Recommendation

The Public Works Division Director and General Services Manager recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve the request to advertise IFB No. 080218-1. Public Works believes the purchase of a new truck will improve efficiency and reliability on the road and eventually save money in the budget.
