Authorization to Advertise Invitation for Bids No. 080118-Purchase Two New Belly Dump Trailers
Background Information
Trailers C-48T purchased in 1998 and C-60T purchased in 2002 are well used up and can’t be mended anymore and are not safe, in staff’s opinion, to be on the road.  They will be sold at an auction. The Consolidated Roads Department requests that they be approved for disposal as surplus. Replacements have been budgeted.
Evaluation
Public Works staff has identified at least 3 sources to obtain bids from and the Procurement Department may look for more sources. Since most of the hauling is with rock and abrasive materials, the trailers will have to meet strict standards.
Conclusion
The Consolidated Roads Department of the Public Works Division is asking to advertise for the purchase of two belly dump trailers which will replace older trailers and are expected to be used for 15+ years. Public Works is also asking to dispose of trailers C-48T and C-60T at auction.
Recommendation
Steve Sanders, Public Works Division Director, recommends that the two belly dumps are to be replaced with new trailers and the two old trailers are to be declared as surplus property and then sold at an auction.
Suggested Motion
Information/Discussion/Action to authorize the advertisement of Invitation for Bids No. 080118-Purchase Two New Belly Dump Trailers; and declare the existing trailers (C-48T and C-60T) as surplus property so they can be sold at an auction. (Steve Sanders)
