Presentation by ADEQ's (Arizona Department of Environmental Quality) Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program (VESP) recognizing Gila County for the outstanding environmental compliance history of Buckhead Mesa Landfill in Payson. Byron James, ADEQ Community Liaison, Apache/Navajo/Gila Counties, will be doing the presentation.

Background Information

The VESP recognizes and awards incentives to Arizona businesses and other organizations that have a good history of environmental compliance and strive to go beyond what is legally required to protect public health and the environment. Participants in the program can access tools and strategies that support their existing environmental programs and find opportunities to further reduce costs and spur innovation.

Evaluation

Numerous incentives are available to organizations participating in ADEQ’s VESP, such as ADEQ’s public recognition of your organization’s stewardship commitment, reduced inspection frequency, coordination of multiple on-site inspections, reduced reporting requirements, and advance notification of inspections and enforcement rulings.

There are five levels of recognition that an organization can earn based on environmental achievements - Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Gila County is being presented with Bronze Level recognition, which is available to regulated facilities that don't have any violations with any environmental regulatory agency within the past three years.
