Request/Subject

Adoption of Resolution No. 18-08-03 for the installation of regulatory signage at the intersection of Randall Place and Pine Creek Drive located in the unincorporated community of Pine in Gila County.

Background Information

This intersection is near an elementary school and a public library. There is a lot of pedestrian traffic in the area. The Sheriff’s Office requested that the Public Works Division assess the intersection to see if something could be implemented to improve the safety of the intersection.

Evaluation

The County Engineer along with engineering staff assessed the intersection for safety. With insufficient right-of-way to install sidewalks, it was determined an appropriate safety feature would be to stop all traffic at the intersection.

Conclusion

Arizona Revised Statute §28-643, Local Traffic Control Devices, states, “Local authorities in their respective jurisdictions shall place and maintain the traffic control devices on highways under their jurisdiction as they deem necessary to indicate and to carry out this chapter or local traffic ordinances or to regulate, warn or guide traffic. All traffic control devices erected shall conform to the manual and specifications prescribed in section 28-641.”

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Public Works Division Director that the Board adopt Resolution No. 18-08-03 for the installation of regulatory signage at the intersection of Randall Place and Pine Creek Drive in Gila County.
