Information
Request/Subject
Approval of Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) No. 022521 with Payson Unified School District
Background Information
This agreement will allow Payson Unified School District to bring special needs children and school clubs to the Route 87 Teen Center at 112 W. Cedar Lane Probation Department. School clubs can have meetings and events at the Teen Center and special education teachers can bring kids to the facility during the day.

Although the Gila County Probation Department/Route 87 Community Teen Center was officially opened in January 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the opening.  The Center wants to have a “soft opening” for the Payson Unified School District to use the facility for specific groups before the Center is fully opened. All COVID-19 CDC guidelines are in place including protective face masks, hand sanitization stations, and access to restrooms. This plan has been approved by the Gila County Health Department to proceed.
Evaluation
The Gila County Probation Department/Route 87 Community Teen Center provides a pro-social programming and social resource for high school-age teens and justice-involved teens to congregate and participate in enrichment incentives and prosocial activities.  The Payson Unified School District endeavors to use the facility to provide activities for special-needs kids, conduct activities for the high school’s AVID program and other types of high school clubs/organizations.
Conclusion
The Route 87 Community Teen Center is a prosocial activity center designed to build juveniles up in an environment of Hope. Numerous workstations and ipads connected to the library district are available for homework and tutoring, music center for playing. Recording, and practicing numerous musical instruments, karaoke, pool tables, ping pong, table hockey, video gaming, televisions, music, snacks and drinks, and after-school activities including sporting events. Staff recommends approval of this IGA.

The Gila County Chief Probation Officer recommends the approval of Intergovernmental Agreement No. 022521 between Gila County on behalf of the Probation Department and Payson Unified School District.
