Request/Subject

The Superior Court is requesting Board of Supervisors' approval for the Superior Court's Fiscal Year 2020 Field Trainer Grant Application.

Background Information

The Field Trainer program is a cooperative endeavor between the Administrative Office of the Courts ("AOC") and County trial courts. A Field Trainer is a full-time, co-funded position designed to provide field support and training to various courts. The Field Trainer acts as a liaison with the AOC and delivers specific pertinent information to court managers and staff about forthcoming automation initiatives and projects.

Evaluation

The Superior Court has experienced several important and intensive automation project rollouts within the last (fiscal) year impacting all court groups including the CASA program and Probation. Training and support for these initiatives is on-going; additionally, a new case management system is expected in the limited jurisdiction courts (justice, magistrate, and municipal) within this calendar year. The total cost of the Field Trainer is currently $65,739 (salary, employee-related expenses, and other). Should this application be approved by the Board, the AOC would contribute $25,000 towards those expenses.

Conclusion

Given the current and future demands of court automation, the Superior Court believes that a Field Trainer will continue to benefit the courts by coordinating training and support for new initiatives.

Recommendation

The Superior Court recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve the Fiscal Year 2020 Field Trainer Grant Application.

Information/Discussion/Action to approve the Superior Court's submission of a Fiscal Year 2020 Field Trainer Grant Application to the Court Services Division, Administrative Office of the Courts, in the amount of $25,000. (Cassie Ornelas)
