Information
Request/Subject
Adoption of Policy LBD-001, Gila County Library District Computing and Communication Technology Policy.
Background Information
This computer policy has been developed to address the changes in technology and potential security threats that impact the Library District and the eight affiliate public libraries the District serves. Library technology security is distinctive from security in other organizations or businesses because we provide computer access to the public, and there is also a need to protect computers from the public. Best practices for libraries includes proper use and protection of resources, networks and equipment of which have been implemented into the policy. This applies to all staff and volunteer work stations and the network as a whole.  The Library District provides network connectivity and equipment for the public libraries, and the policy will provide the needed protection of our resources.

Public machines are not part of this policy as they are currently secured through other measures to limit harming of the network.

The policy has been reviewed by the Gila County Legal Department.
Evaluation
The purpose of this policy is to protect the integrity and security of the computing and communication resources of Gila County Library District and its affiliate libraries. The policy will establish standards and provide procedures and guidelines for the ethical use of the technological resources of the Library District and its affiliate libraries.

This policy has been reviewed and evaluated by library staff, IT and the eight affiliate libraries.
Conclusion
Adoption of the Gila County Library District Computing and Communication Technology Policy will provide a layer of protection to the technology resources for the Library District and its affiliate libraries.

Once this policy has been approved by the Board of Supervisors, the Library District anticipates that the affiliate libraries' governing boards will adopt the policy as well.

Adherence to this policy will be required in the annual Library Service Agreements, beginning in fiscal year 2019-2020.
