Request/Subject

Gila County Planning and Zoning Commission and Gila County Board of Adjustment Appointments.

Background Information

Gila County Planning and Zoning Commission - Lori Brown previously served on the Commission until she resigned effective February 9, 2016. She represented Supervisorial District 2. Ms. Brown's current term of office runs from January 1, 2015, through December 31, 2018, so there is a need to find someone who is willing to fulfill this unexpired term of office.

Gila County Board of Adjustment - Ms. Brown also served on this Board until she resigned effective February 9, 2016. She represented Supervisorial District 2. Ms. Brown's current term of office runs from January 1, 2015, through December 31, 2018; however, a one-time adjustment is being made at this time to revise the term of office to end on December 31, 2016, so there will be staggered terms for those who represent Supervisorial District 2. There is a need to find someone who is willing to fulfill this unexpired term of office.

Evaluation

Michael Pastor, District 2 Supervisor, contacted Kurtis Knauss and he had agreed to fulfill Ms. Brown's unexpired terms on both the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment. Mr. Knauss meets all of the statutory requirements so that he can represent Supervisorial District 2.

Conclusion

Per statutory requirement, the Board of Supervisors has the authority to appoint members to the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Board of Adjustment.

Recommendation

Supervisor Pastor recommends that the Board of Supervisors appoint Kurtis Knauss to fulfill Ms. Brown's unexpired term of office on the Planning and Zoning Commission through December 31, 2018, and on the Board of Adjustment through December 31, 2016.

Suggested Motion

Approval to appoint Kurtis Knauss to fill Lori Brown's unexpired term of office on the Gila County Planning and Zoning Commission for the period May 3, 2016, through December 31, 2018; and, to appoint Mr. Knauss to fill Ms. Brown's unexpired term of office on the Gila County Board of Adjustment for the period May 3, 2016, through December 31, 2016.
