Request/Subject

The current Gila County policy on the abandonment of roadways in Gila County lets staff initiate abandonment proceedings with approval from the Board of Supervisors. This request is to begin the process to abandon First Avenue, north of Main Street (aka Golden Hill Road) between Lot 24, Block 6 and Block 1A, all in the Midland City Subdivision, Official Map No. 48 Gila County Records.

Background Information

The Midland City Subdivision was recorded in 1916. Some of the roads in the subdivision have never been built and exist only on the map. Gila County staff has identified this portion of First Avenue as never being built and suitable for abandonment. The road serves no purpose and abandoning the road will not deny anyone access.

Evaluation

Staff has contacted adjoining owners in the area and they are receptive to acquiring the road.

Conclusion

It is in the best interest of all involved to begin the process to abandon First Avenue, north of Main Street (aka Golden Hill Road) between Lot 24, Block 6 and Block 1A, all in the Midland City Subdivision, Official Map No. 48 Gila County.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Public Works Division Director that the Board begin the process to dispose of a portion of First Avenue in the Midland City Subdivision.
