Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board Appointments

Background Information

Per statutory requirement, the Board of Supervisors is responsible for appointing members to a county cooperative extension advisory board, which shall consist of 7 members. Each member shall be appointed for a term of two years.

The Board of Supervisors' most recent action regarding this Board was taken on May 5, 2015, at which time the Board re-appointed Clark Richens for another 2-year term, and it appointed Mike Burket for a term beginning on May 5, 2015. Both members' terms of office don't expire until December 31, 2016. The five remaining Board members' terms of office expired on December 31, 2015. Four of the five members have agreed to serve another 2-year term of office; however, that information was not presented to the Clerk of the Board until recently.

Evaluation

Fred Jimenez, Dave Cook, Diana Hemovich and Albert Hunt have agreed to serve another 2-year term of office on the Cooperative Extension Advisory Board. Appointments to this Board must be made by the Board of Supervisors.

Conclusion

The Board of Supervisors needs to take an action to reappoint the following members of the Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board so that their terms of office are retroactive from January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2017, as follows: Fred Jimenez, Dave Cook, Diana Hemovich and Albert Hunt. There currently is one vacancy on this Board who represents "principal business." Cooperative Extension Office staff is seeking a candidate to fill this slot on the Advisory Board.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors reappoint the 4 members as stated above.

Suggested Motion

Approval of the following re-appointments to the Gila County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board for the term of office beginning January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2017: Fred Jimenez, Dave Cook, Diana Hemovich and Albert Hunt.
