Approval of Agreement No. 032615-1 with the Gila County Rodeo Committee.

Background Information

For years, Gila County has supported the efforts of the Gila County Rodeo Committee in holding the Copper Dust Stampede Rodeo each year.

In the past, Gila County staff has received quotes from and issued contracts to stock contractors, emergency medical companies, rodeo clowns, rodeo announcers and feed companies to aid in the costs incurred with putting on the annual rodeo.

Evaluation

In August 2014, the Gila County Rodeo Committee was granted tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and classified as a public charity.

In line with Gila County Policy No. BOS-FIN-016 - Community Agency and Economic Development Funding that was approved by the Board of Supervisors, the County may grant funding to non-profit entities to provide services to the public. Each year the Copper Dust Stampede Rodeo grows bigger and bigger. The rodeo draws people from out of town and brings in additional revenue to the City of Globe through food sales, gas sales and hotel accommodation sales, to name a few.

Conclusion

It would benefit the residents of Gila County, through added revenue, to continue to support the Gila County Rodeo Committee's endeavors to put on the Copper Dust Stampede Rodeo.

Recommendation

Staff recommends the approval of Agreement No. 032615 to provide funding to the Gila County Rodeo Committee to offset the costs incurred with hosting the 2015 Copper Dust Stampede Rodeo.

Suggested Motion

Information/Discussion/Action to approve Agreement No. 032615-1 between Gila County and the Gila County Rodeo Committee to provide an economic development grant in the amount of $10,000 that will be used to offset the costs incurred for the 2015 Copper Dust Stampede Rodeo on May 8-9, 2015.
