Request/Subject
Gila County School Superintendent  sponsored Arizona Project WET - Arizona Water Festival
Background Information
Arizona Project WET was founded in 1989 to make the citizens aware of local water issues.  During this festival they will be teaching school age children about physical and chemical properties of water, water's connection to life's existence, water on the earth system and the hydrological cycle, water is limited natural resources, and water resources management.

The Gila County School Superintendent has been a partner with this project in recent years and sponsored similar events in Payson.

The School Superintendent is requesting the use of the Pinal Mountain Little League Complex on March 27, 2014, in order to hold this educational event as a part of the annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Festival.
Evaluation
The Southern Gila County Water Festival will help support 300 fourth graders and 15 teachers with water themed  Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. Volunteers from Freeport-McMoRan and the rest of community will facilitate lessons in the groundwater system, watersheds, water conservation, a water cycle through 16 interactive booths featuring water science models.
Conclusion
This event and other lessons in the schools help teachers convey content and skills required by the Arizona State Standards for Science and Social Studies and College and Career Ready Standards more effectively.

Since the County does not own the Pinal Mountain Little League property but does have an agreement with Freeport McMoRan to lease the property, prior written approval of Freeport and the Little League is required and has been obtained for this special event. (attached)
