Resolution No. 13-02-01 Accepting a Roadway Easement on Copper Hills Road

Background Information

Copper Hills Road is located approximately 1 mile north of Globe. The first 2.4 miles of the road already exists in the Gila County Maintained Roadway System. The road then enters Copper Canyon Ranches Subdivision and becomes a private road. Maintenance of the road is the responsibility of the Home Owners' Association (HOA.) The road has a gravel surface and the length of the road is 2.1 miles. At this point the road leaves the subdivision and enters the Tonto National Forest. Gila County maintains the road through the Tonto National Forest through our annual maintenance agreement. Last year residents in the subdivision approached County Management about the possibility of the County accepting maintenance of the road through the subdivision. Public Works staff evaluated the request.

Evaluation

The road foreman in the region along with staff from the Engineering Department visited the road and found the road to be in a good condition with a gravel surface with no signs of drainage problems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if the Board of Supervisors accepts the road into the Gila County Maintained Roadway System it will not place an additional burden on the Roads Department to maintain the road, nor will the current level of service provided on other roads in the area diminish. Adding approximately 2.1 miles of road into the County Maintained Roadway System should generate some additional revenue from the Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF).

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Deputy Director of Public Works that the Board of Supervisors adopt Resolution No. 13-02-01.

Information/Discussion/Action to adopt Resolution No. 13-02-01 accepting a roadway easement on Copper Hills Road as described in Fee Nos. 2013-000552, 2013-000553, and 2013-000554, Gila County Records, as a public road and for said road to be maintained as a public roadway in the Gila County Maintained Roadway System.
