Request/Subject

Accept or reject a Citizens' Petition to begin the process to designate W. Round Tree Trail from the intersection of Forest Road 130 (Dutchman Trail) and Mule Track Road from the intersection with W. Round Tree Trail to the south boundary of that property shown as parcel 305-02-002J as primitive roads.

Background Information

On November 13, 2019, Gila County Public Works received a Citizens Petition to establish W. Round Tree Trail from the intersection of Forest Road 130 (Dutchman Trail), and Mule Track Road from the intersection with W. Round Tree Trail to the south boundary of that property shown as parcel 305-02-002J as primitive roads. The roads are near the community of Young.

Evaluation

The petition and the roads meet the requirements of Public Works Policy No. PWS-001 & Guidelines to Primitive Roads which was approved by the Board of Supervisors on October 3, 2003, revised on December 1, 2004, and revised again on February 19, 2019.

Conclusion

Easements from property owners will need to be granted to Gila County. Once the easements are accepted by the County, providing maintenance as described in the Primitive Road Policy will consist of grading the roads a few times a year. Providing maintenance on these roads will not reduce the level of service to other roads in the Gila County Maintained Roadway System.

Recommendation

The Public Works Department Director recommends that the Board accept the Citizens' Petition to begin the process to establish W. Round Tree Trail from the intersection of Forest Road 130 (Dutchman Trail), and Mule Track Road from the intersection with W. Round Tree Trail to the south boundary of that property shown as parcel 305-02-002J as primitive roads.
