Request/Subject

Acknowledgement of the Assessor's notice of retirement/resignation and consider the Assessor's recommendation to appoint Joseph Williams, Chief Deputy Assessor, to fill the Assessor's unexpired term of office.

Background Information

On November 12, 2019, Deborah Hughes, Gila County Assessor, submitted a letter to Woody Cline, Chairman of the Gila County Board of Supervisors, announcing her retirement from the County effective December 31, 2019. Ms. Hughes is requesting the Board to appoint Joseph Williams, Chief Deputy Assessor, to fill her unexpired term of office through December 31, 2020.

Evaluation

A.R.S. § 11-251(16) authorizes the Board of Supervisors to fill vacancies of elected officers in a county office.

Conclusion

The Board of Supervisors needs to acknowledge Ms. Hughes' notice of retirement/resignation effective December 31, 2019, and consider Ms. Hughes' request to appoint Mr. Williams to fill her unexpired term of office through December 31, 2020.
