Public Sale of Hill Street between Block 25 and Block 24, all in the Miami Map No. 2 Subdivision, Official Map No. 23 Gila County Records.

Background Information

On August 7, 2018, during a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors, the Board directed staff to begin the process to dispose of an unnecessary public roadway being a portion of Hill St. Staff began the necessary notifications and public postings of the Board’s decision.

Hill St. is a public road that was created when Miami Map No. 2 was recorded in 1909. This portion of Hill St. has never been developed or used by the public. There are two adjacent owners along the road, Freeport McMoRan Miami Inc., and Monty and Clara Nichols. Both landowners have been contacted and given the option to exercise preference rights before the proposed date of sale by or appear at the public sale and submit a bid for that portion of Hill St. adjacent to their property.

The adjacent landowners have submitted bids for the portion of Hill St. that adjoins their property. The bids meet the minimum requirement established by the current Gila County policy on abandonment of roadways in Gila County.

Evaluation

Abandoning this portion of Hill St. will not deny anyone access to their property.

Conclusion

It is the best interest of all involved to abandon the road.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Public Works Department Director that the Board of Supervisors accept a bid from Freeport McMoran Miami, Inc in the amount of $3,130, and a bid of $3,130 from Monty and Clara Nichols for Hill St. to purchase property that is adjacent to their respective property.
