Letter of Support to Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names to name a portion of U.S. Highway 60 as Governor Rose Mofford Memorial Highway.

Background Information

On September 19, 2017, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to issue a letter to the Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names in support of Roberto Reveles's petition to name a portion of U.S. Highway 60 as Governor Rose Mofford Memorial Highway. At the August 8, 2018 meeting, the Names Board voted down Mr. Reveles’s proposal, Docket 2017-07, to which the Gila County Board of Supervisors supported. Mr. Reveles then submitted a new proposal, Docket 2018-03, with amended mile posts to which the new name designation would apply.

Although the only change between the two proposals was the mile posts, the Names Board is asking for Docket 2018-03 to be treated as brand new.

On behalf of the Names Board, Mr. Ryan Ehrfurth, Research Support for the Arizona State Board of Geographic Names, has re-contacted all interested parties just to ensure that any support or objections still stand.

Evaluation

The Board of Supervisors is being presented with a new draft letter of support for Mr. Reveles's new proposal, Docket 2018-03, with amended mile posts to which the new name designation would apply.

Conclusion

A draft letter of support for Mr. Reveles's new proposal, Docket 2018-03, with amended mile posts to which the new name designation would apply, is being presented to the Board of Supervisors.

Recommendation

Staff recommends that a letter of support be provided to the Arizona State Board of Geographic and Historic Names for Mr. Reveles's new proposal, Docket 2018-03, to rename a portion of U.S. Highway 60 as the Governor Rose Mofford Memorial Highway.
