Request/Subject

Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) No. 101818 between Gila County and the City of Globe for maintenance of a portion of Vertical Heights Road partially inside the Globe city limits.

Background Information

On July 8, 2003, the Gila County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 03-07-03 officially establishing Vertical Heights Road as a County Highway and accepting said road for maintenance within the County Highway Maintenance System. Since that time the road has been maintained by Gila County.

Evaluation

It was recently discovered that the first one thousand feet (1000’) of the road is inside the Globe city limits.

To continue to provide maintenance over the entire road it was determined the best course of action was to enter into an IGA with the City of Globe, so the County can continue to maintain the portion of the road that is inside the city limits.

Conclusion

After discussing options with the City it has been determined an IGA between the City and the County is the preferred method of allowing the County to provide maintenance on that portion of the road inside the City.

Recommendation

The Public Works Division Director recommends entering into an IGA with the City of Globe that will let the County continue to provide maintenance on the portion of the road inside the city limits.

Suggested Motion

Information/Discussion/Action to approve Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) No. 101818 with the City of Globe whereby the County shall continue to provide road maintenance for that portion of Vertical Heights Road partially located inside the Globe city limits and authorize the Chairman to sign the IGA.
