Standard Insignia Designation, Location, Placement, & Annual Exemptions on Gila County Motor Vehicles

Background Information

Arizona Revised Statute Title 38, Chapter 3, Article 10 provides guidance on the placement, size, location, exemptions and violations of how to identify County vehicles. These guidelines do not apply to law enforcement vehicles.

Most County vehicles currently have markings on the doors.

Evaluation

On some vehicles (such as dump trucks, semi-trucks, pickup trucks with racks) it is not practical to place insignias on the rear window. Those vehicles whose rear window is obstructed will continue to have county insignias placed on the doors.

Conclusion

It is in the best interest of the Board of Supervisors to have insignias in consistent locations on County vehicles. These guidelines do not apply to law enforcement vehicles. A.R.S. §38-538.03 provide guidance on exemptions. All requests for exemptions must use the attached form. All requests will be turned into the County Manager's office for consideration. The County Manager will contact General Services to inform them as to whether to remove or place insignias on the vehicle.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Public Works Department Director that Gila County begin to follow the guidelines of Arizona Revised Statute Title 38, Chapter 3, Article 10 regarding the placement, size, and location of county insignias.

Suggested Motion

Information/Discussion/Action to direct the General Services Division of Public Works to begin marking vehicles in accordance of Arizona Revised Statute Title 38, Chapter 3, Article 10, and that all requests for exemption must be turned into the County Manager's office for consideration.
