Request/Subject

Resolution No. 15-12-02 for a roadway exchange between Pedro and Sandra K. Navarro and Gila County, and to authorize the Chairman’s signature on a quit claim deed for said roadway exchange.

Background Information

Pedro Navarro conducted a recent survey of his property which showed a portion of Houston Mesa Road on his property. Gila County had previously acquired a portion of the property now owned by the Navarros for Houston Mesa Road; however, the County didn’t acquire quite enough of the road. This exchange will allow the County to acquire the additional right-of-way needed. It will also let the County return a platted roadway on the Navarro property that is of no benefit to the County. Past records show that the County has abandoned this road on adjacent parcels.

In 1985, and per Docket 649, Pages 60-61, Gila County Records, the County abandoned a portion of the roadway on a parcel that was southwest of the current proposed abandonment.

Evaluation

This roadway exchange will provide needed right-of-way for the Houston Mesa Road and return a platted roadway that serves no public purpose to the property owner. This will benefit both parties.

Conclusion

This seems to be a win-win situation for everyone involved. Gila County will receive a right-of-way on a road currently being maintained by the County and the Navarros will receive a road that impacts their property that has no benefit to the County.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Public Works Division Director that the Board adopt Resolution No. 15-12-02 authorizing the Chairman to sign a Quit Claim Deed for the exchange of roadways in Mesa Del Caballo Subdivision.

Information/Discussion/Action to adopt Resolution No. 15-12-02 for a roadway exchange (roadway is located north of Payson) between Pedro and Sandra K. Navarro and Gila County, and to authorize the Chairman’s signature on a Quit Claim Deed for said roadway exchange. (Steve Sanders)
