Adoption of Resolution No. 19-11-01 to rename a section of road in Verde Glen as N. Cowan Ranch Road.

Background Information

The Cowan Ranch Homeowners Association contacted the Rural Addressing Department with a request to rename the existing road from Schneider Trail in memorial to the Cowan brothers that developed the property into its current state. The Schneider Trail road name was assigned as part of Resolution No. 04-04-09 as brought before the Board of Supervisors April 20, 2004, and recorded under Fee# 2004-006193. The Home Owners Association (HOA) has secured 26 of 27 (96.3%) petition signatures for the property owners adjacent to the road in favor of the road renaming (attached as part of the submittal). These names and addresses have been verified against current Assessor ownership data. A public notice was sent to the property owners verifying their intentions with a response due date of October 15, 2019, and as of October 16, 2019, no dissenting responses had been received.

Evaluation

This road branches off of Forest Service Road 1190 and is north of Control Road. The section is identified as Section 26 T12N R10E. After receipt of the petition to rename the road was evaluated, a public notice was mailed to each property owner on September 26, 2019, providing an opportunity for dissent. No dissenting responses had been received. The petition, area map, and public notice are attached to this agenda item.

Conclusion

Renaming this section of road in Verde Glen is supported by the Gila County Street Naming and Property Numbering Ordinance.

Recommendation

The Public Works Department Director recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt Resolution No. 19-11-01 renaming a section of road in the Verde Glen area as N. Cowan Ranch Road.
