Request/Subject

Gila County Sheriff's Office 12D Funding from the Apache Gold Casino and San Carlos Apache Tribe.

Background Information

On October 7, 2014, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Gila County Sheriff's Office to submit an application to apply for $20,000 of 12D funds through the Apache Gold Casino Resort and the San Carlos Apache Tribe for the purchase of undercover surveillance equipment and tactical firearms equipment for use by the Sheriff's Office and the Drug, Gang, and Violent Crime Task Force. On October 24, 2014, the Sheriff's Office received partial funding in the amount of $10,213.93 from the San Carlos Apache Tribe.

Evaluation

The San Carlos Apache Tribe has approved 12D funding and has awarded the Gila County Sheriff's Office funding in the amount of $10,213.93 to be used by the Sheriff's Office and the Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force to purchase of undercover surveillance equipment and tactical firearms equipment.

Conclusion

Commander Baxley of the Gila County Sheriff's Office was verbally notified that the Sheriff's Office was awarded 12D funding from the San Carlos Apache Tribe in the amount of $10, 213.93 to be used for undercover surveillance equipment and tactical firearms equipment. Attached to this agenda item is a copy of the check that was given to the County.

Recommendation

Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd recommends that the Board of Supervisors accept the 12D funding from the San Carlos Apache Tribe in the amount of $10,213.93.

Suggested Motion

Approval to accept a grant award from the San Carlos Apache Tribe in order to receive 12D funds in the amount of $10,213.93 that will be utilized by the Sheriff's Office and the Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force to purchase undercover surveillance equipment and tactical firearms equipment to be spent by June 30, 2015.
