Declare 4 Used Tanks as Surplus and Authorization to Advertise a Notice of Public Auction

Background Information

The Public Works Department received the four used tanks from the Town of Star Valley approximately twelve to fifteen years ago and intended to use them as dip tanks. The tanks have been sitting for quite some time and are not usable for the purpose intended. The tanks can be disposed of by closed bid auction advertised in the local newspaper and the winning bidder can purchase one or all of the tanks. If the winning bidder chooses not to purchase all of the tanks then the remaining tanks can be sold individually for the winning bid price.

Evaluation

The Public Works Department Director has determined that the tanks are no longer usable and can be disposed of by auction. If there are no bidders or all tanks are not sold then they will be disposed of by the Public Works Department. The Board of Supervisors needs to declare the 4 used tanks as County surplus equipment and authorize the publication of a Notice of Public Auction in the newspaper.

Conclusion

It is important to sell the used thanks and they may have value by offering them at closed bid auction.

Recommendation

Staff recommends auctioning the tanks and requests the Board of Supervisors to declare the tanks as surplus equipment and authorize the advertisement of the Notice of Public Auction.

Information/Discussion/Action to declare four used tanks as surplus and authorize the publication of a Notice of Public Auction to sell the tanks through a closed bid process. (Mary Springer)
