In multiple community working groups (most recently the City of Globe/Rural Community Assistance Corporation Building Rural Economies Program; Cobre Valley Cooperative; FMI Community Partnership Panel; BHP Community Resource Group; and Gila County & Southern Gila County Economic Development Corporation) lack of adequate housing has been identified as a barrier to growth. Again, aligned with our partners, the City of Globe has committed to move forward in developing a housing plan and strategic framework to enhance residential development opportunities for the Globe-Miami and surrounding areas. Highlights of the study are to include: Community and Housing Profile; Housing Needs Assessment; Land Use & Policy Review; and Goals, Policies, & Quantifiable Objectives.
Upon completion of the regional study and development of the Housing Plan, the cross sector Housing Committee, with members from the Town of Miami, City of Globe, Gila County, Southern Gila County Economic Development Corporation (SGCEDC), area real estate professionals including the Multiple Listing Service Group, investors, and developers will aggressively market our area to regional housing developers, investors and also to potential employers who will now consider our region viable to house their workforce.
With this study completed, our community can actively work towards the ultimate goal of increasing the available housing inventory in every segment, from low-income to workforce and single-family homes. The study and plan will also enable other local workforce housing groups to be eligible for grant funding to increase our stock of much needed low-income and senior housing.
Per Gila County Policy No. BOS-FIN-016 - Community Agency and Economic Development Funding, the County and the City of Globe shall enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement in order for the County to appropriate an economic development grant.
