Request/Subject

The Superior Court of Gila County requests approval to apply for Access and Visitation Program Grant supplemental funds available through the Division of Child Support Services ("D.C.S.S.").

Background Information

Since Federal Fiscal Year 2014, Court Administration has participated in the "Access and Visitation Grant Program" offered through the Division of Child Support Services. The funds provided by D.C.S.S. reimburse the Gila County general fund for the costs of specific services like Mediation, the Development of Parenting Plans, and Parenting Classes in Family Law cases. Court Administration presented information to the Board of Supervisors on this topic on January 5, 2016.

Evaluation

In Federal Fiscal Year 2015, the Superior Court was awarded $6,697.17 in funding with a subsequent award of $4,555.56 in supplemental funding. Court Administration has expensed all available funding associated with the grant for Federal Fiscal Year 2016 ($6,086.57) and applied for supplemental funding. The ten-percent match obligation is satisfied by "in-kind" services. The Division of Child Support Services has offered $4,866.71 in supplemental funding and the Court's application is now before the Board.

Conclusion

This funding opportunity will allow for continued reimbursement to the County for access and visitation services provided to citizens.

Recommendation

The Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of Gila County, Hon. Timothy Wright, recommends that the Gila County Board of Supervisors approve the application.
